I have been hitting tennis balls for 73 years. No instructor, including at least one pretty famous tennis pro in Texas, EVER taught me something you have just explained in this video today. During a conventional volley, no matter if it’s on the forehand or backhand side, the slightly opened racket face must be moving **both** forward and SLIGHTLY DOWNWARD before the exact moment of ball contact and then during followthrough — the *slightly downward racket face motion* is where backspin is created. This detail is crucial and having it mind as a “swing thought” (golf terminology, sorry) will be exciting for me in coming days here in the upper midwest. But not today — a spring blizzard is just west of Minnesota and heading due east. Thanks for this crucial volley tip. Mind-blowing. Where were you when I was 12 years old !
