Have you ever been told to always “step in to your shot”? There are certainly times where stepping forward has it’s benefits, but there are several circumstances it can be detrimental to your tennis game. In today’s lesson, Brady demonstrates when it’s appropriate to step in to the ball.

    Good lesson. Also, it’s impossible to step in into a ball with a lot of topspin especially one that jumps at you. In this you’ll be challenged with pace and height. In this case you may have to step back to allow the ball to drop or just punt the ball so you can stay in the point. I think it’s important to stay in the point and then wait for the opportunity to strike. If it takes 20 or more shots in the rally, so be it!!

    Excellent video. When uninformed coaches tell students to “step into the ball,”
    it typically creates the habit of hitting a closed stance (not even neutral stance) forehand. I have met so many students who were just locked into that useless shot… Neutral stance, on the other hand, is still very useful in today’s game…
